Mold Remediation and RemovalClarksville and Middle Tennessee

Mold is what water damage leaves behind. When moisture sits inside drywall, subfloor, or a crawlspace for more than 24 to 48 hours, spores take hold and spread behind the surfaces you can see. POWCO finds the moisture source, contains the spread, and removes the mold so it does not come back.

  • Certified inspection with moisture meters and air-quality assessment
  • HEPA containment that stops spores from spreading room to room
  • Source correction by a licensed general contractor, not just a wipe-down

Why Mold Thrives Here

Middle Tennessee Humidity Is A Mold Machine

Clarksville sits in a humid subtropical climate. Our summers run long, warm, and heavy with moisture, and dew points regularly climb into the 70s from June through September. That warm, damp air is exactly what mold needs to colonize any surface that stays wet.

A lot of homes around Montgomery County and the wider Cumberland River valley sit on crawlspace foundations that trap ground moisture underneath the living space. Add an older roof, a slow supply-line drip, or a spring storm that finds its way into the attic, and you have the recipe for mold growing where nobody is looking.

The window is short. Damp materials can begin growing mold in as little as 24 to 48 hours. By the time you smell that musty odor or see a patch spreading up a wall, spores have often already moved into the wall cavity, the HVAC returns, or the subfloor. That is why a wipe-down alone almost never solves it.

Most Mold We Find Started As Untreated Water

If you have had a recent leak, a flooded room, a roof issue, or a slow drip under a sink, the fastest way to prevent mold is to stop the moisture at the source before it ever forms. Our water damage restoration crew handles extraction, structural drying, and mold prevention under the same roof.

Our Mold Remediation Process

Mold removal that lasts is about three things: finding the moisture, containing the spores, and correcting the source. We follow industry containment standards so the problem does not get pushed into the rest of your home.

STEP 1

Inspect and Test

Visual assessment, moisture meters, and air or surface sampling to map where mold is hiding and why.

STEP 2

Contain

We seal off the work area and run HEPA negative-air machines so spores cannot cross-contaminate clean rooms.

STEP 3

Remediate

Affected materials are removed, surfaces are HEPA-vacuumed and treated with antimicrobial, and the air is scrubbed.

STEP 4

Prevent and Restore

We fix the moisture source and, as a licensed GC, rebuild what was removed. One contract, one warranty.

Signs You May Have A Mold Problem

Mold is not always obvious. Alongside visible growth, a persistent musty or earthy smell is one of the most reliable indicators of hidden mold, even when nothing is showing on the surface.

Keeping Mold Out Of Your Home

You cannot eliminate every spore, but you can take away what mold needs to grow. Through a long Tennessee summer, controlling moisture is the whole game.

Hold Humidity At 30 To 60 Percent

Run your AC and a dehumidifier through the humid months. A cheap hygrometer tells you when a room is drifting into mold territory.

Vent The Moisture Out

Use exhaust fans when cooking and showering, and make sure the clothes dryer vents outside, not into a wall or crawlspace.

Stop Condensation

Insulate cold surfaces like windows, exterior walls, and crawlspace pipes so warm indoor air does not leave water where mold can start.

Skip Carpet In Damp Rooms

Avoid carpet over slabs, near water heaters, or anywhere prone to moisture. Hard flooring dries fast and does not feed spores.

Mold Questions, Answered

Is all mold toxic black mold?

No. There are thousands of mold types, and only some produce mycotoxins. The dark mold people worry about, Stachybotrys, does grow indoors on wet drywall, but you cannot identify risk by color alone. Any mold that is actively growing indoors should be removed, and testing tells us what we are dealing with.

Can I just clean it with bleach?

Surface bleaching can hide the stain, but it rarely fixes the problem. If the moisture source is still there and spores have reached the porous material underneath, the mold returns. Lasting removal means correcting the water source, removing affected material, and containing the area so spores do not spread.

Do I really need mold testing?

Not always. If there is obvious growth from a known source, the priority is removal. Testing is most useful when mold is suspected but hidden, when you need to document a claim, or to confirm that air quality is back to normal after remediation.

Will my insurance cover mold?

It depends on the cause. Mold that results from a sudden, covered event such as a burst pipe is often covered, while mold from long-term neglect or humidity usually is not. Because we handle both the water source and the remediation, we can help document the loss for your carrier.

How long does mold remediation take?

A contained single-room job often takes a few days from inspection to clearance. Larger areas, crawlspaces, or jobs that require reconstruction take longer. We give you a clear scope and timeline after the inspection rather than a guess over the phone.

How do you keep the mold from coming back?

By treating the cause, not just the symptom. Once the mold is removed, we correct the moisture source, whether that is a leak, poor crawlspace ventilation, or a roof issue, so the conditions that grew it in the first place are gone.

Mold Does Not Dry Out On Its Own

Left alone, mold keeps feeding on whatever it grows on and keeps releasing spores into the air your family breathes. What starts as a patch in a closet can spread into the wall cavity, the HVAC, and the subfloor, turning a contained cleanup into a full rebuild.

POWCO is BBB Accredited with an A+ rating, a licensed Tennessee general contractor, and your 2025 Best of Clarksville restoration team. We inspect it, contain it, remove it, and fix the reason it grew, all under one roof.

The longer it sits, the deeper it spreads.
